Our Method

The NewMom Index

Every product we recommend earns a score from 0 to 100. It's built from four things that actually matter when you're the one up at 3am — weighted, transparent, and set before we ever add an affiliate link.

30%
Safety
Standards, recalls, materials, and real-world safety record.
25%
Value
What you get for the price — and whether cheaper does the job.
25%
Ease of Use
Setup, daily use, cleaning, and how forgiving it is at 3am.
20%
Longevity
How long it lasts and how many stages it carries you through.

Why safety is weighted highest

Baby gear isn't a normal product category. A car seat that's hard to install or a bassinet that doesn't meet current safe-sleep standards isn't just annoying — it's a real risk. So Safety carries the most weight, and for sleep and travel gear we lean on guidance from the AAP and recall data from the CPSC rather than making safety claims ourselves.

Scores come before money

We set every score on the merits first. Only after a product has earned its ranking do we add affiliate links — and we compare prices across multiple retailers so you can choose where to buy. If something isn't worth your money, we say so and tell you what to buy instead.

What the score is not

It's our editorial rating — not an Amazon star rating, and not a lab certification. We don't display scraped prices or ratings. When you see a price band like $$, that's our own estimate of where a product sits, not a live price.

So far we've scored 145+ products across the gear that new parents ask about most. See the guides →
